Men's Soccer Hosts Mt. St. Joseph on Senior Day

The Yellow Jackets started the by honoring Sean Vandewiele (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers), Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky / Upper Sandusky), Adam Ordel (Lima / Elida) and Christian Meister (Ontario / Ontario) for their contributions over their four years with the men's soccer program.
The energized Defiance side wasted no time in the contest. Jarren Casto (Celina / Celina) found the path of Ordel with just 2:41 on the clock. Ordel hit a hard shot the Lion goalkeepers right, and found the back of the net with the opening strike of the contest.
The visitors were able to score two times in the remaining minutes of the first half, and took a 2-1 lead into hafltime.
The Lions scored one more time during the contest, as a corner found the head of an MSJ attacker who knocked it just out of reach of Musgrave's diving effort.
The Purple and Gold retaliated quickly, as just 27 seconds later DC earned a penalty. Meister stepped up to the shot and beat the Lion goalkeeper to bring the score to 3-2. The goal was Meister's eighth of the season, breaking his personal best and moving him into a tie for third on the Defiance leaderboard. The Ontario, Ohio native's goal also moves him into a tie for second on the career goals list with 18.
Despite heavy offensive pressure, the Yellow Jackets were unable find an equalizer during the remainder of the contest.
The loss brings Defiance's record to 7-9 with a 4-3 HCAC mark. DC is currently sitting in fourth place in the HCAC standings with just two games remaining.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 24 as they host Earlham College at 3:30 pm for the final home game of the season.
