Musgrave to Play for Dutch Lions
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College sophomore keeper Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky) has made the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC of the United States League's (USL) Premier Development League, where he will play during the summer of 2017.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College sophomore keeper Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky) has made the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC of the United States League's (USL) Premier Development League, where he will play during the summer of 2017.
Musgrave earned honorable mention All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors during his sophomore season, where he started all 18 games and allowed 44 goals for a 2.32 goals against average. Musgrave saved 121 shots and finished with a .733 save percentage. Musgrave finished the season with a 5-8-4 record, including a pair of shutouts.
Musgrave is one of three goalkeepers on the roster, joining Zeus de La Paz, who plays for a feeder program in the Netherlands, as well as Matthew Kessler, who plays for NAIA's Union (Tenn.) University. Musgrave joins a team that has athletes from the Division I and II level and is currently the only Division III athlete on the roster.
Musgrave will play for head caoch Terry Nicholl, who is in his fourth season as head coach of the Dutch Lions, but has now coached soccer for 30 years. Nicholl led the team to the playoffs during the 2015 season, which qualified the Dutch Lions for their first ever US Open Cup in 2016 where they fell in the opening round. In PDL play, the Dutch Lions finished with a 1-10-3 record in 2016.
The Dutch Lions will a play a 14-game schedule with seven home contests, which will be played at Northern Kentucky University. They will open their season on Sunday, May 21 as they play a home game against the West Virginia Chaos.
