Men Fall Short to Illinois Tech

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets (2-3-1) kept Illinoiis Tech (2-4) to one goal that happened at the 12:54 mark. Senior Victor Trifiro (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) took the only shot for the Jackets in the first half during the 33rd minute, but the shot went wide as the Hawks led, 1-0, at the intermission.
The Jackets tallied their first shot of the second half on a header from freshman Jacob Diffenderfer-Gabbard (Troy) off of a corner kick, but the attempt went wide at the 51:34 mark. He attempted another header five minutes later, missing high.
Later in the half, junior Christian Meister (Ontario) got DC on the scoreboard with a goal at the 78:44 mark to even the game at 1-1. Freshman Amad Khalil (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) was credited with an assist on the Meister goal.
With the game tied at 1-1, the two teams looked to be headed to overtime to decide the outcome when Illinois Tech found the back of the net with a little over a minute to go. The goal proved to be the difference maker as the late game heroics edged the Jackets, 2-1.
Sophomore Clay Musgrave (Upper Sandusky) played the entire game in net for Defiance. He allowed the two goals and recorded eight saves.
The Jackets will return to play Wednesday Sept. 21 in Ada, Ohio as they take on non-conference opponent Ohio Northern University. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
