Yellow Jackets Fall to the Pioneers
LEXINGTON, KY. – The Defiance College men’s soccer team traveled to Lexington, Ky. to compete against Transylvania (Ky.) University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and fell to the Pioneers by a score of 1-0.

Senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood/Lake) had the first shot for Defiance (4-10-2, 2-2-1 HCAC) with a header at the 11:44 minute mark that sailed high.
The only other shot recorded for the first half came from freshman defender Nick Kleptz (Troy) with a header that missed the target at the 20:15 minute mark.
The Yellow Jacket defense stood firm, only allowing Transylvania (7-5-1, 3-1-1 HCAC) to have five shots and no goals in the first half, keeping the game scoreless going into halftime.
After intermission, Metz kept the Pioneer goalie on his toes, with a shot that was saved at the 72:53 minute mark. Just a few minutes later, Transylvania found the back of the net and took the 1-0 lead, late into regulation.
Despite effort from Metz at the 85:25 mark with his third shot of the day, the Yellow Jackets were unable to connect with the net and fell to Transylvania by a score of 1-0.
Transylvania dominated in shots on the afternoon, racking up 16 (eight on goal) to the Yellow Jackets four (one on goal).
In the net for Defiance, sophomore Damian Koester (Englewood /Brookville) ended the game with seven saves.
The Purple and Gold will host HCAC rival Bluffton University on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
