DC Tops Anderson (Ind.), 3-2
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s soccer team hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Anderson (Ind.) University and defeated the Ravens by a score of 3-2.

Defiance (4-9-2, 2-1-1 HCAC) took an early lead at the 10:26 minute mark when freshman forward Anthony Ewing (Dayton/Northmont) received an assist from senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood/Lake) and got one past the Anderson (8-6, 2-2 HCAC) goalie off of a loose ball in the box.
The Yellow Jackets kept the pressure on the Ravens and at the 21:17 mark freshman defender Nick Kleptz (Troy) beat the Ravens goalkeeper and found the back of the net, off of an assist from freshman midfielder Mark Williams (Plain City/Jonathan Alder), taking the lead 2-0.
Despite efforts from junior midfielders Jayson Long (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) and Jordan Drake (Maumee/Springfield) to put the Yellow Jackets even further ahead, Anderson got a goal off of a rebound at the 35:30 mark to make the score 2-1 going into halftime.
After intermission, sophomore midfielder Victor Trifiro (Akron/Wash Jesuit) and Metz made the Anderson goalie do work, but came up empty-handed.
The pressure was put on the Yellow Jacket defense and the Ravens were able to even the score to 2-2 at the 62:26 minute mark.
Defiance retaliated with three unanswered shots in an eight minute span. Sophomore midfielder Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) had a shot that was saved by the Anderson goalie and Metz added two more shots to his tally for the afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead at the 87:21 mark when Kleptz got the ball past the goalie off of assists from Metz and freshman defender Michael O'Brien (Northville, Mich. / Northville).
The goal late in regulation proved to be too much for Anderson, giving the Yellow Jackets the big home win over the Ravens, 3-2.
In net for Defiance, sophomore goalkeeper Damian Koester (Englewood/Brookville) recorded five saves and senior forward Ashten Forde added one shot on goal to lead the Yellow Jackets for the afternoon.
The Purple and Gold will travel to Lexington, Ky. for a HCAC matchup against Transylvania (Ky.) University on Saturday Oct. 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
