Defiance and Franklin (Ind.) End in a Tie
FRANKLIN, IND. – The Defiance College men’s soccer team traveled to Franklin, Ind. to face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival, Franklin (Ind.) College and after double overtime, ended the game in a 0-0 tie.

Defiance (3-9-2, 1-1-1 HCAC) senior forward Robert Tanya (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) struck first for the Yellow Jackets at the 12:57 mark that sailed wide.
Just a few minutes later, freshman forward Anthony Ewing (Dayton/Northmont) made the Franklin (5-4-2, 2-0-1 HCAC) goalie work, with a shot that was on target but saved.
Freshman midfielder Austin Schumaker (Millbury/Genoa) and senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood/Lake) both had attempts to put the Yellow Jackets on top, but came up empty-handed, taking a 0-0 tie into halftime.
After intermission, the Yellow Jackets kept the pressure on the Grizzlies defense. Freshman midfielder Mark Williams (Plain City/Jonathon Alder), freshman defender Jeremy Koerber (Hampton, N.J. / Kittatinny Regional) and Ewing had shots but couldn't find the back of the net.
Despite chances in the final minutes by both teams, neither team could net the game-winning goal, sending the contest into overtime.
In the first overtime, no shots were recorded keeping the game deadlocked 0-0 and forcing a second overtime. In the final ten minutes sophomore midfielder Victor Trifiro (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) recorded the only shot for Defiance, but Franklin held, sealing a 0-0 double overtime tie.
In the net for Defiance, sophomore Damian Koester (Englewood/Brookville) played the entire game and recorded six saves.
The Purple and Gold will host Anderson (Ind.) University on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a HCAC matchup set to begin at 2 p.m.
