DC Drops First Game of the Kiwanis Classic
WILMINGTON, OHIO - The Defiance College men’s soccer team traveled to Wilmington to take on Wittenberg University and dropped its first game of the Kiwanis Classic by a score of 2-0.
WILMINGTON, OHIO - The Defiance College men's soccer team traveled to Wilmington to take on Wittenberg University and dropped its first game of the Kiwanis Classic by a score of 2-0.
Defiance (1-6-1) threatened Wittenberg (4-2-1) within the first minute of the game when senior forward Robert Tanya (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) had a shot, but sailed high.
Despite the Yellow Jacket's defensive efforts, DC went down at the 30:25 mark when Wittenberg found the back of the net, making the score 1-0.
Before the half, freshman forward Anthony Ewing (Dayton / Northmont) tried to even the score with a shot that went wide, keeping the deficit 1-0 going into halftime.
Defiance came out strong after intermission, making the Wittenberg goalie make plays. Senior defender Ian Fasnacht (Strongsville / Padua Franciscan), sophomore midfielder Victor Trifiro (Akron / Walsh Jesuit) and Ewing all had shots on goal but came up empty-handed.
The Tigers pulled away at the 70:45 mark when they found the back of the net to take the lead 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets battled to the end when senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood / Lake) and senior forward Ashten Forde (Euclid) both had shots on goal within the last 15 minutes of regulation that were saved by the Wittenberg goalie.
Defiance failed to get any more shots from there on out and the Tigers came up with the victory.
In the net for the Yellow Jackets, freshman goalkeeper, Ollie Davis (Mechanicsburg / Springfield Catholic) recorded seven saves for the evening.
The Purple & Gold returns to action taking on Wilmington College tomorrow Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7:30pm in the final game of the Kiwanis Classic.
