ANGOLA, IND. - The Defiance College Yellow Jacket men's soccer team struck first, but couldn't capitalize as they fell 2-1 in overtime to Adrian (Mich.) College.
Coming fresh off a win just 24 hours before, the Yellow Jackets (1-4-1) came out strong within the first 14 minutes when senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood/Lake) immediately threatened the Adrian defense with a header that was directed on net, but sailed wide.
Metz never let up and was rewarded at the 26:40 mark when he found the back of the net, giving the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jacket defense stood strong, not allowing the Bulldogs to score, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, junior midfielder Jordan Drake (Maumee/Springfield) kept the Adrian goalkeeper busy with a shot, but came up empty-handed.
Adrian struck back at the 54:43 mark when they found the back of the net tying the score at 1-1.
Freshman goalkeeper, Ollie Davis (Mechanicsburg/Springfield Catholic) would stay busy the rest of the half saving a total of nine shots in the second half alone.
Despite chances in the final minutes by both teams, neither team could net the game winning goal, sending the contest into overtime.
Two minutes into overtime, Adrian had back-to-back shots that were saved by Davis. The third shot of the period proved to be too much, when the Bulldogs found the back of the net at the 95:49 mark taking the lead 2-1 and winning the contest.
Davis ended the game with a season-high of 13 saves and Drake added two shots on goal to lead Defiance.
Defiance will host Heidelberg on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field at 4pm.
