DC finished with a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record of 5-4 last season and just missed postseason play by four points.
This year, DC will look to some talented upperclassmen to lead the Yellow Jackets into the beginning of the season.
Ian Fasnacht (Strongsville, Ohio / Padua Franciscan), Ashten Forde (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid), Drew Metz (Northwood, Ohio / Lake), and Blayne Robbins (Galva, Ill. / Miamisburg) have all been named to the All-HCAC Preseason Players to Watch list.
With those four players, DC brings back a core of talented defenders and midfielders.
Fasnacht and Robbins will head the defense this season. DC only gave up 1.21 goals per game last season and scored five shutouts. Fasnacht and Robbins were huge contributors to the success of the defense last year.
Forde and Metz will be a huge presence in the midfield all while threating the opposition's defense all season long. Along with helping the core of the defense last season, Forde and Metz are the two highest goals scorers returning for the Yellow Jackets. Last season Metz scored four goals and had six assists while Forde added three goals of his own.
Head Coach Alex Van der Sluijs said, "We are excited to get the season started." When asked about the seventh place poll ranking he said, "Games are not played on paper."
DC begins its season at home with the Purple and Gold Classic. They host Waynesburg on August 29 at 4:30 pm to kick-off the season. Then welcome Illinois Tech to town on September 1 at noon.
