GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its list of all-conference performers on Thursday, with Defiance College's Joe Loftis and Jaiden Henderson each receiving recognition on the Second-Team All-HCAC list.
Loftis and Henderson combined to score 10 of the Yellow Jackets' 20 goals during the season, leading the team to a 5-11-2 overall record.
Loftis entered the season as a HCAC Player to Watch, and lived up to the billing with four goals, including one game-winner, on the way to his second-consecutive all-conference award. The junior midfielder used his aggressive style of play to repeatedly force defenders into compromising situations, resulting in his conference-best three penalty-kicks for goals.
Henderson finished first on the team with six goals and two assists, using his blistering speed to beat defenders down the sideline with frequency. His six goals ranked sixth in the conference, and his 14 points were the eighth-highest point total in the HCAC.
Both players will be back for DC's 2011 campaign, and headline an exciting squad that should make some noise in the HCAC next season. The team got off to a 5-3-2 start to begin the year, but faltered in the second half of the season, falling to ninth place in the conference. With a talented group of returners and one season under the belt of rookie head coach, Alex Van der Sluijs, the team looks primed for a successful 2011 campaign.
