DEFIANCE, Ohio – The men's soccer team dropped to 5-8-2 on the season, and 1-4-1 in the conference, with a 3-0 loss against Earlham College on Wednesday. Quality shots were hard to come by against the Quakers' defense, which held the Jackets to just three shots on goal, marking their third-lowest total of the season.
Earlham took an early lead when Bannet Asingura plowed his way through a Defiance defender and directed the ball into the corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets were outshot by a count of 7-2 in the first half, but Sean Roberts made some impressive saves to keep DC's deficit at just one goal through halftime.
The Quakers extended the lead in the 50th minute, when Asingura collected a ball that ricocheted off the crossbar and sent it in to the net for his second goal of the match. Earlham's Ameer Yusuf made it a 3-0 game 10 minutes later to complete the scoring for the contest. Defiance picked up the intensity offensively with six shots in the second half, but goalkeeper, Chris Marshall, recorded two saves and left with his second win of the season.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the road for their next two games, beginning on Saturday when they square-off against Mount St. Joseph (2-11-1, 1-4 HCAC) at 3:00 p.m.
