DC Looks Strong in Season-Opening Win Over Finlandia
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The DC men’s soccer team began the 2009 season with a 4-0 win over Finlandia in the first match of the DC Classsic on Friday, September 4, at the Defiance High School soccer stadium.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The DC men's soccer team began the 2009 season with a 4-0 win over Finlandia in the first match of the DC Classsic on Friday, September 4, at the Defiance High School soccer stadium.
Chris Kessler began the scoring for the Jackets with a goal at the 5:28 mark and Jacob Heiliger extended the lead to 2-0 eight minutes later. Both first half assists came from freshman forward Kyle Johnson who was active on the pitch for the Yellow Jackets all night. The defense played strong as Defiance out-shot the Lions 18-8 in the match, including an 11-2 differential in the first half. DC was given an immediate boost from its freshman forward Joshua Fullen who scored two goals in his first ever collegiate competition.
Freshman goalkeeper Sean Mukhtar earned his first career victory for the Jackets, allowing no goals while collecting four saves in 90 minutes.
Defiance will return to action on Sunday, September 6, when it hosts Rochester College on the final day of the DC Classic. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the Defiance High School varsity soccer field.
