Jackets compete at Lourdes Spring Invitational on Tuesday
OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. - The Defiance College men's golf team was one of 13 teams to make up a 97-player field at the Lourdes Spring Invitational at The Legacy Golf Club on Tuesday.
In just the second tournament of the spring portion of the season, Bretton Basford (Fr./Pennville, Ind./Winchester) led the Yellow Jackets for the second straight tournament with 89 on his scorecard. He managed to stay out of big trouble with just four holes of double bogie or worse.
Zach Canterbury (Jr./Tontogany, Ohio/Otsego) has improved through all three spring rounds with a 93 on Tuesday. Brenden Garvin (Sr./Vancouver, Wash./Prairie) holed an even round of 100 and earned the program's lone birdie of the day on the par three sixth. Garvin matched Basford's 46 on the front nine as the lowest on the team but battled with the back nine to complete the day. Will Garlock (Sr./Lima, Ohio/LCC) shot his best round of the spring with a 103. Sam Boyles (Fr./Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) completed 12 holes but was unable to complete the round.
Trine claimed the team victory as the only unit to shoot below 300 with a 299 team round to defeat Siena Heights by nine strokes. Ben Ellis from Siena Heights claimed the individual medalist honors with a one-under round of 71.
