Men’s golf finishes fall season at Region V Showcase in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Defiance College men's golf concluded the fall slate of their 2023-24 schedule at the two-day Region V Division III Showcase hosted by the University of Notre Dame at Warren Golf Course.
With 95 golfers and 16 teams from D-III colleges and universities across Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania, the HCAC's Rose-Hulman claimed the top team score of 585 over Monday and Tuesday's event. The Fighting Engineers also claimed the top three individual tournament scores as Austin Frick claimed medalist honors after rounds of 69 and 70 for a 139, three-under-par showing. The Yellow Jackets placed 16th with team cards of 796 following rounds of 401 and 395.
Individually, Branden Garvin was DC's top golfer. He compiled rounds of 92 and 91 to finish in a tie for 86th as one of two Jackets to break 200 for the tournament. The other was Zach Canterbury shooting 194 for the showcase with rounds of 100 and 94. Sam Boyles totaled 205 followed by 214 by Bretton Basford. Payton Switzer shot 219 for the tournament and Will Garlock rounded out the lineup with a 245 during the event.
The fall showcase was the sixth event of the six-tournament schedule and just the second of October for the Yellow Jackets. DC men's golf will return to the links for the spring season in 2024.
