Jackets grind it out at Forest Hills
RICHMOND, Ind. – Defiance College men's golf competed in their fourth tournament in a 17-day stretch before getting a two-week break after 36 holes at the Forest Hills Falls Invite.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets went for 391 on Saturday followed by 385 on Sunday for a 776 two-day total to finish 11th out of 11 teams. Franklin won the team competition with a 602 36-hole total with a sterling 293 first round to help pad the 11-stroke victory. Point Park's Troy Loughry won the individual crown by two strokes over Franklin's Jacob Paine with a 144 and led the field each day with rounds of 68 and 76.
Freshman Bretton Basford led the Yellow Jackets with a 180 two-day score with rounds of 91 and 89. Brenden Garvin finished four strokes behind his teammate with cards of 94 and 90 for an 184 weekend. Sam Boyles followed hit 192 to finish 50 shots over par while Will Garlock and Payton Switzer each shot a pair of triple-digit rounds to end the weekend at 220 and 235 respectively.
DC's next competition on the links will be at Sylvania Country Club on October 9 for the Gray Wolf Invitational hosted by Lourdes.
