Jacket golfers show improvement at Warrior Invite
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Defiance College men's golf put together a season-best team round on Wednesday as five Yellow Jackets competed in Indiana Tech's Warrior Invite at Donald Ross Golf Course.
The team's 356 team score is the lowest of the young 2023-24 campaign as all five golfers shot under 100 to give the Yellow Jackets the lowest 18-hole team round over the last two seasons.
DC's top round was completed by senior Brenden Garvin's round of 86, tying him for 23rd in the tournament. Freshmen Sam Boyles and Bretton Basford each broke 90 with scorecards of 87 and 89 respectively. Boyles continues to lead the Yellow Jackets with a season average of 87. Zach Canterbury fired a 94 in his second round of competition for the season, and Will Garlock put together his second straight sub-100 round with a round of 99.
Spring Arbor's Team B won the team competition with a 308, bettering Sienna Heights by three strokes. The individual champion went to Tyler Walker from Spring Arbor via a playoff against Sienna Height's Owen Baily after dualing rounds of 73.
The next match for the Yellow Jackets takes place in Richmond, Ind. this Saturday and Sunday at Forest Hills Country Club.
