Men’s golf opens 2021 spring season at Music City Shootout
JOELTON, Tenn. – Despite heavy rain on Friday night, into the morning and more in the forecast, the Defiance College men’s golf team was able to open its 2021 spring season on Saturday at the Music City Shootout, hosted by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference member Franklin College. The one-day, 18-hole tournament was held at the par-70 Nashville National Golf Links, which covers 6,217 yards, on the north side of Nashville.

Competing for the first time since Oct. 19, 2019, Defiance finished in third place among three HCAC teams after shooting a 376 (+96) total. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the event at 319.
Hayden Clingaman, who shot 80 to place fifth in the 24-player field, led the way for the Yellow Jackets, ending seven strokes back of the medalist from Franklin. Behind Clingaman, DC's only upperclassman, was freshman Brenden Garvin, who finished 20th with a 95 in his first collegiate outing.
Defiance's next scheduled event is the Franklin College Tournament next Saturday and Sunday (March 6-7). The 36-hole tournament is to be played at Belterra Golf Club in Florence, Indiana.
