Freshman Oliver Thomas Named the Lake Erie Junior Golf Association Player of the Year
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Defiance College men's golf freshman Oliver Thomas was named the Lake Erie Junior Golf Association Player of the Year for the 2018 season.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Defiance College men's golf freshman Oliver Thomas was named the Lake Erie Junior Golf Association Player of the Year for the 2018 season.
Thomas, a 2018 Margaretta High School graduate, finished his career among the top in the state winning the teams most valuable player award and qualified for the regional tournament.
Upon being named the Player of the Year, Thomas competed in several tournaments through out the state of Ohio carding medalist honors on four separate occasions and runner-up honors twice.
The freshman opened the season at Catawba Island Club shooting an 81 for a second place finish. He then competed at Fremont Country Club where he carded a 76 to claim medalist honors.
Thomas also captured medalist honors at Green Hills with 70 strokes (-1 under par), Maumee Bay Club with 79 strokes and Sawmill Creek Club with 80 strokes.
He rounded out Junior Golf Association Play at Eagle Creek where he claimed runner-up honors shooting a 75.
The men's golf team will open the regular season on August 31 as they travel to Hidden Creek Golf Club in Lima, Ohio.
