Miday Paces Men's Golf to Third Place Finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial
WAUSEON, OHIO - The Defiance men's golf team, paced by senior Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas), posted a season-best third place finish at the Jon P. Speiss Memorial Golf Tournament hosted at Ironwood Golf Course.
WAUSEON, OHIO - The Defiance men's golf team, paced by senior Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas), posted a season-best third place finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Golf Tournament hosted at Ironwood Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.
Miday paced the Yellow Jackets finishing second and earning All-Tournament team honors shooting a team-best 70, two under par. After nine holes of play, Miday shot a 37 but found his stroke on the back nine with three birdies and an eagle on 16 to finish with 33 strokes.
Freshman Hayden Clingaman (Stryker) also found success on the course shooting a career-best 76 to finish tied for 11th overall.
Freshman Daniel Acosta (Torreon, Mexico/Gary Gilchrest Academy) tallied a 30th place finish shooting an 80, while senior Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) and junior Stephan Dolan (Painesville Twp.) both shot an 82.
Defiance finished the 18-hole tournament by shooting a team-score of 308 strokes.
University of Northwestern Ohio won the team title shooting a 300, while Jackson claimed second place with 302 strokes.
Junior Drake Moening (Defiance) and freshman Evan Baughman (Payne) competed as individuals for the Yellow Jackets. Moening posted a 24th place finish with 79 strokes, while Baughman finished tied for 60th shooting an 87.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Sunday, September 24 as they host the Defiance Invitational at the Eagle Rock Golf Course.
