Men's Golf Starts Spring With Fifth-Place Finish
FRANKLIN, IND. -- The Defiance College men's golf team began its 2017 spring schedule at the Franklin (Ind.) College Spring Invitational at placed fifth overall at French Lick Resort in Franklin, Ind.
FRANKLIN, IND. -- The Defiance College men's golf team began its 2017 spring schedule at the Franklin (Ind.) College Spring Invitational at placed fifth overall at French Lick Resort in Franklin, Ind.
The Yellow Jackets ended the two-day event with a team total of 665 strokes, including a second round in which DC improved by 17 strokes from the opening round of 18 holes (341+324=665). Host school Franklin won the event with a team total of 616 strokes (316+300=616) and was followed by Hanover (Ind.) College in second place with 621 strokes (314+307=621). Kentucky Wesleyan University rounded out the top three teams with 624 strokes (315+309=624).
Individually for DC, junior Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) led the way with a two-day total of 151 strokes (76+75=151) and placed in a tie for second overall. Senior Jacob Tinsley (Eaton) also placed in the top-ten by finishing ninth with a tournament total of 156 strokes (82+74=156).
Senior Zach Weber (Ottoville) posted the third lowest score for the Jackets at 178 strokes (84+94=178) and was followed by the duo of sophomores Drake Moening (Defiance) and Beau Barkley (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Churubusco) who recorded scores of 186 strokes (99+87=186) and 201 strokes (113+88=201), respectively.
Defiance is scheduled to compete in the Mount St. Joseph University Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 25-26 at Aston Oaks Golf Club in North Bend, Ohio. The rounds are scheduled to begin each day at 9:30 a.m.
