Weber Posts Top-Ten Finish at Hanover (Ind.) Invite
SEYMOUR, IND. -- Sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) finished in the top-ten individually following a pair of rounds in the 70s to lead the Defiance College men's golf team to a seventh place finish at the Hanover (Ind.) College Invitational at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.

Defiance improved its overall team score by seven strokes on the final day to end the two-day event with a combined score of 625 strokes (316+309=625) to place seventh of nine teams. University of Northwestern Ohio took the team honors with a championship total 608 strokes (300+308-608). Davenport (Mich.) University and Mount St. Joseph University tied for second with 609 strokes each. Both schools also shot identical scores each round with 303 and 306 strokes.
Weber shot rounds of 78 and 74 strokes to post an overall score of 152 strokes. His score was good enough to tie him for 10th overall amongst the field. Also recording back-to-back rounds in the 70s were freshmen Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) and Ben Baumgartner (Holland/Springfield). Midway carded rounds of 77 and 79 strokes, while Baumgartner scored rounds of 79 and 77 strokes. Both finished with 156 total strokes for the tournament to place in a tie for second on the team and 23rd overall. Sophomore Jacob Tinsley (Eaton) posted the fourth lowest score for the team of 161 strokes shooting rounds of 82 and 79 strokes. Rounding out the scoring for the qualifying overall team score was freshman Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) who ended the tournament with 171 strokes (91+80=171).
Competing as an individual was freshman Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central). McGinnis shot an opening round of 90 strokes and then carded 93 strokes on the final day to end with an overall score of 183 strokes.
Defiance is scheduled to host the two-day Defiance Invitational next weekend (Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 18-19) at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance. Each round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
