Yellow Jackets Finish Seventh at Defiance Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College sophomore Jake Tinsley (Kettering/Eaton) shot a 74 to lead the Yellow Jacket men's golf team at the annual Defiance Fall Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Defiance College sophomore Jake Tinsley (Kettering/Eaton) shot a 74 to lead the Yellow Jacket men's golf team at the annual Defiance Fall Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
Defiance finished the single-round tournament with a combined 318 strokes to place seventh overall of 10 teams. Owens Community College took the team title with 297 strokes, followed by Rochester (Mich.) College in second with 300 strokes. Cleary (Mich.) University was third with 306 strokes.
Tinsley finished the round three over par to pace DC and finished in a tie for seventh overall. Making up the rest of the qualifying team scores included the duo of sophomore Zach Weber (Ottoville) and freshman Austin Alexander (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) tied for the second lowest score with 79 strokes each. Freshman Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) and sophomore Derek Lucas (Eaton) both carded rounds of 86 strokes to round out the Jacket scoring.
In addition, several players competed as individuals for Defiance. Freshman Ben Baumgartner (Holland/Springfield) recorded the lowest score amongst the individuals with a round of 74 strokes. Fellow freshman Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) ended the 18-hole event wtih a score of 78 strokes and was followed by seniors Ryan Edelbrock (Delphos/Delphos St. John's), Hurst Talbott (Columbus/St. Charles Prep) and Rick Girona who finished back-to-back-to-back with Edelbrock posting an 82 and Talbott and Girona both shooting rounds of 84 strokes. Completing the list of DC competitors was freshman Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) and sophomore James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) who had rounds of 91 and 96 strokes respectively.
The Jackets concluded the fall portion of their schedule with the completion of the Defiance Invitational.
