Jackets finish 10th at Mount St. Joseph to open spring
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s golf team improved its play on the second day of the Mount St. Joseph Invitational and concluded the weekend event in 10th place.

All but one of the five members of the Purple and Gold posted better rounds on Sunday. As a squad, DC shaved 18 strokes off their total from day one to day two for a total of 688.
Jacob Tinsley (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) notched the best 18-hole score on the afternoon with an 81. In his first competition as a Yellow Jacket, the freshman led the team with a final score of 167 (+23) and finished tied for 39th at the invite.
Finishing two strokes behind Tinsley in the round were senior Mike Ross (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) and junior Rick Girona (McClure, Ohio / Ostego). Each racked up a round of 83. For the weekend, Ross came in second on the team at 169 (+25) and Girona ended third at 171 (+27).
Defiance's final two golfers of Zach Weber (Ottoville, Ohio / Ottoville) and Derek Lucas (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) accounted for Sunday scores of 88 and 98, respectively. Overall, Weber concluded the tournament at 183 (+39) and Lucas scored a 191 (+47).
Transylvania came in first at the MSJ Invitational with a score of 613. The host Lions came close to taking the tournament, but finished second at 616 strokes.
The Purple and Gold will return to action next weekend when it travels to Terra Haute, Indiana for the Rose-Hulman Invitational. Tee times are still to be announced.
