DEFIANCE, Ohio - Senior Mike Ross led the Defiance College Yellow Jackets in the Defiance Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Bryan, Ohio native shot a 74 (+3) to finish in a tie for fourth in the Yellow Jackets home tournament for the fall semester. Ross had a birdie and two bogies on the front nine to open up with a 36 and finished with eight pars and a double bogey for a 38 on the back nine.
Hurst Talbot had the next best round for the Yellow Jackets on the par-71 course, putting together a round of 83 (+12). Talbot recovered after a bogey and a double bogey in the first two holes with pars in six of the last seven on the front nine. Like the rest of the Yellow Jackets, Talbot struggled more on the back nine, shooting a 43.
Defiance combined to shoot 19 stokes more on the back nine (216) Sunday than on the front nine (197).
Ryan Edelbrock was the third scorer for Defiance in the one-round event. Edelbrock shot a 39 on the front nine, but a double bogey and triple bogey on the back nine set the junior back with a 45 coming in to finish the round with an 84.
Freshmen Derek Lucas and Zach Weber tied for fourth on the Yellow Jackets squad, each posting rounds of 86. Weber shot a 40 on the front nine, but shot a team high 46 on the back nine. Lucas went out with a 42 on the front nine and shot a 44 on the back half of the course.
The Yellow Jackets finished sixth overall in the event, one stroke off of a top five finish.
Defiance will return to action next weekend with a two-day event at the Kenyon Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.
