Gehring’s Sixth-Place Finish Leads Jackets at DC Invite
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Senior Matt Gehring finished tied for sixth place overall after carding a round of 77 at the Defiance College Spring Invitational.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Senior Matt Gehring finished tied for sixth place overall after carding a round of 77 at the Defiance College Spring Invitational. The Yellow Jackets posted a team score of 322 to finish fourth.
Gehring shot a front nine score of 40, and improved by three strokes on the back nine with a 37 for his round of 77. Sophomore Mike Ross was 15th-overall with a score of 80 (41-39) for the day.
Freshman Hurst Talbot shot 82 (40-42) and senior Brian Jones (37-46) to continue the team scoring for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Josh DeGroff ended the varsity scoring with a round of 91 (39-52). Senior Jared James competed as an individual and shot 96 (49-47).
Owens C.C. took the team title with a score of 309. Justin Epure of Tiffin University earned medalist honors with a score of 72 (35-37).
The Yellow Jackets will return to the links on Saturday, April 14th in Terre Haute, Indiana for the Rose-Hulman Invitational. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:00 am.
