DC Men Take Sole Possession of Fifth at HCAC Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College men’s golf squad improved its score by 15 strokes in Sunday’s second round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College men's golf squad improved its score by 15 strokes in Sunday's second round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships. DC will enter the final two rounds of the event in fifth place.
The Jackets were led on Sunday by freshman Mike Ross, who shot an 82 to improve by eight from his opening round and climb to 18th in the overall standings. Jace Neal backed up his 82 on Saturday with an 83 and is now tied for ninth. Matt Gehring improved by three shots to climb to 28th and Brian Jones bested his score by seven strokes to help Defiance take sole possession of fifth place.
Transylvania (649) took control of the team standings, while Mount St. Joseph (659), Franklin (671), Hanover (673) and Defiance (701) filled out the top five. Anderson was next at 705, while Rose-Hulman (706) and Manchester (730) remained in seventh and eighth.
The Jackets will compete in the Trine Tournament on April 23, before heading to Anderson, Indiana to play the final two rounds of the 2011 HCAC Championships on April 30 and May 1.
