N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – The 2010 fall season came to a successful close on Saturday for the Defiance College men's golf team, as the Yellow Jackets shot a 643 to edge Mount St. Joseph and Manchester for the team championship.
Jace Neal paced Defiance with a 158 over the two rounds to finish in second place, while Mike Ross ended in fourth with a 160. Brian Jones shot a 162 to end in seventh and Jared James and Matt Gehring each fired a 165 to end in a tie for eighth.
MSJ's Tom Witterstaetter claimed the medalist honors over Neal, by carding a 149 but it was not enough for the Lions to overtake DC in the team standings. DC topped the Mount (645) by two strokes, with the host Manchester squad ending in third with a 681.
The Jackets will look to carry the momentum that they gained from the strong fall campaign through the winter and into the 2011 spring season.
