Men’s Golf Opens Fall Season at Spiess Memorial
WAUSEON, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s golf team competed in its first event of the 2010-2011 season on Tuesday, as the Jackets took part in the 16-team Jon Spiess Memorial at Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon, Ohio.

Huntington set a new tournament record and won the team championship with a combined score of 286, while Heidelberg and Northwestern Ohio tied for second with a 301. Defiance ended in a tie with Ohio Northern and Siena Heights for seventh place with a score of 312.
Brian Jones and Mike Ross led the Yellow Jackets by each carding a 76, while Jace Neal and Josh DeGroff each followed up with an 80. Alex Goecke also performed well, carding a 79 as an individual competitor.
Nick Ihrie of Trine posted a 70 to win the medalist honor in a playoff with Huntington's Cory Powell, while Ohio Northern's Tom Repicky won the long drive competition with a distance of 311 yards.
The DC men will continue their fall campaign over the weekend in the Anderson Invitational on September 18 and 19.
