Neal, Haviland Turn in Top-Three Finishes
WAUSEON, Ohio – Defiance’s Jace Neal and Matt Haviland finished second and third in Tuesday’s Jon Speiss Memorial Men’s Golf Tournament. The high finishes lifted the Jackets to a fifth-place showing, just seven strokes off the lead.

Defiance finished with a team score of 312 and edged Rochester (317) and Olivet (318) in the standings. Trine captured the team championship with a 305 and was followed closely by Northwestern Ohio (306), Findlay (309), Spring Arbor (310) and DC.
Trine's Jared Lambert carded a 71 to beat out DC's Neal by two shots for the individual medalist honors. Haviland tied with five other golfers for third, after shooting a 76.
Brian Jones turned in Defiance's third-best score of the day, finishing 20th with a 79, while Aaron Konold and Jared James ended 31st and 34th. Matt Gehring competed for the Jackets as an individual and ended in a tie for 32nd.
Defiance will host the DC Fall Invitational on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Kettenring Country Club.
