New-Look Jackets Open Fall Season
WATERFORD, Mich. – The Defiance College men’s golf team got its 2008 fall season underway on Friday. The Jackets, featuring only two returners from one year ago, finished fourth at the Oakland Community College Invitational at Pontiac Country Club.

Defiance played through the wet and rainy conditions to record a total team score of 315 to edge out Owens Community College and Glen Oaks Community College in the standings.
Wayne State claimed the team championship with a 292, while Oakland Community College was next with a 297. Rochester College finished at 312 to beat DC by three shots and round out the top three.
Matt Haviland led the new-look Jackets with a 75 and was followed by returning sophomores Aaron Konold (77) and Jace Neal (80). Brian Jones carded and 83 for DC and Matt Gehring fired an 87. Jared James competed as an individual for Defiance and finished his round with an 81.
Defiance will be back in action on Tuesday when it hosts the Jon Speiss Memorial Tournament in Wauseon, Ohio. The men will begin at 10:00 am and the women will follow at 10:30 am.
