Bio

Scott Cutter is in his sixth season as head coach of the Defiance College men's basketball program in 2020-21. Cutter became the 21st head coach in team history prior to the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

In his first year as head coach, Cutter led the Yellow Jackets to a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship and the top seed in the 2016 HCAC Tournament. Additionally in 2015-16, DC produced the conference's top performer for the second straight year as Tyler Alexander was named the HCAC Most Valuable Player.

Cutter came to Defiance from conference rival Hanover College in Indiana and is no stranger to the DC community. He began his coaching career with the Yellow Jackets as an assistant coach for four seasons from 2003-07. In 2006-07, Defiance went 17-9 overall with a runner-up finish at the HCAC Tournament. Cutter's recruiting also played a big role in DC going 19-8 overall in 2007-08 when the Yellow Jackets captured the HCAC regular-season title.

The success Cutter had at Defiance carried over to Hanover, where the Panthers ended in the top five in the conference every season he was there (2009-15), including a stretch of four consecutive seasons as HCAC runners-up (2009-13). He helped lead those teams to a pair of 19-win seasons, highlighted by a berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament in 2011. In addition to his many roles and duties as an assistant, Cutter also served as the program's recruiting coordinator.

Prior to coaching at HC, Cutter spent one season (2008-09) as an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan University. That year, the Battling Bishops finished with a 17-8 overall record and placed second in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Cutter attended Mount St. Joseph University for two years before moving on to Wilmington College in Ohio, where he earned a degree in business management in 2002. During his initial coaching stay at DC, he received his master's degree in sports science education in 2007. As an undergraduate at Mount St. Joseph and Wilmington, Cutter played on the men's basketball team for a combined four years.
