DC men return to action Wednesday night
The Defiance College men's basketball team looks to pick up another home win on Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) host the Alma College Scots (0-1) at the Karl H. Weaner Center in a non-conference contest.
This game will mark the 12th time the Yellow Jackets and Scots will battle. Overall, Defiance has been able to accumulate an 8-3 record over Alma, recording a .727 winning percentage.
The first meeting dates back to the 1968-69 season under Yellow Jacket head coach Mark Hohenberger. Defiance lost that game by ten points by a final score of 77-87.
The most recent meeting dates back to the 2016-17 season under Yellow Jacket head coach Scott Cutter. The Yellow Jackets lost that meeting as well, 64-76. The Scots made some big time plays in order to gain the win. These include outsourcing Defiance on fastbreak points, 10-0, outscoring Defiance in the paint, 32-20, and racking up 18 assists.
Key players to watch for Defiance include senior Marell Jordan (Chicago, Ill./ Lafayette Jefferson) and Clayton McCorkle (Converse, Ind./Oak Hill). Jordan was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Week after his performance in Defiance's Purple and Gold Tournament. McCorkle caught fire this weekend at the Purple and Gold Tournament as well, starting by shooting a perfect 3-3 on Saturday.
Key players to watch for Alma are juniors Tyshuan Walker (Landover, Md./Bladensburg) and Landen Moore-Pierce (Flushing, Mich./Flushing). Walker recorded a total of 20 points in Alma's season opener against Elmhurst College. Moore-Pierce helped the Scots against Elmhusrt by also adding in 10 points and three assists.
Tipoff at the Karl H. Weaner Center is scheduled at 7:30pm.
