Men’s basketball suffers HCAC loss to Transy
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center on Saturday afternoon, the Defiance College men’s basketball squad suffered an 83-67 loss to the visiting Transylvania University Pioneers in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center on Saturday afternoon, the Defiance College men's basketball squad suffered an 83-67 loss to the visiting Transylvania University Pioneers in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.
The defeat drops Defiance to 10-9 overall, including 5-7 in the HCAC. Transylvania is 12-7 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
The Yellow Jackets' largest lead of the game came at 18-15 before the Pioneers went on top, 38-30, at halftime. Transy increased its advantage to 70-41 with 7:15 remaining and the closest DC could get after that was the final 16-point margin.
Defiance shot a season-low 35.4 percent (23 of 65) from the field, making only 7 of 32 (21.9) from outside of the three-point arc. By comparison, TU hit 31 of 66 (47.0 percent) from the floor and 6 of 20 (30.0) on three-pointers. Transylvania outrebounded the hosts, 43-34.
For the Yellow Jackets, freshman Avonte Jones (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) came off the bench to score a career- and game-high 16 points in 20 minutes on 5-of-6 shooting from both the field and free throw line. Marell Jordan (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) tallied 15 points while freshman Chase Glock (Stryker, Ohio/Stryker) added 10 with six rebounds in a reserve role. In all, 10 different DC players scored in the contest
Defiance is on the road for an HCAC game with Manchester University on Wednesday. Tipoff in New Manchester, Indiana, is set at 7:30 p.m.
