The Yellow Jackets were led in the game by freshman Sean Tyson (Columbus/Centennial) with a game-high 17 points, while freshman Tyler Andrew (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) added 11 points.
Defiance entered the second half trailing 27-17 when freshman Marell Jordan (Lafayette, Ind.) connected from deep to cut the deficit with 17:12 remaining. The Purple and Gold continued to chip at the lead as senior Noah Goodrich (Oregon/Genoa) found his stroke from behind the three-point arc pulling DC within 31-28, forcing a Beaver timeout.
Junior Jordan Maschino (Bradford/Covington) deemed clutch in the paint for the Yellow Jackets as he got the tip-in score that pulled DC within 31-30 with just 14:11 remaining. The two teams would exchange scores for several minutes when Tyson stepped up and knocked down back-to-back three-pointers pulling Defiance back within 38-37.
Defiance claimed the lead with 9:37 to play as Tyson went into the paint, eluding two defenders for the score. However, Bluffton responded tying the game with 8:12 remaining before taking the lead following a jumper in the lane, 42-40. Bluffton would lead the contest from that point on as they deemed clutch at the free-throw line en route to the victory.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, February 9 as they travel to Transylvania. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
