Defiance College Welcomes New Faces for the 2018-19 Season
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s basketball team welcomes new faces for the 2018-19 season under the guidance of fourth year head coach Scott Cutter. The Purple and Gold roster will feature five returners and 10 new comers, including nine freshman.

Here is the breakdown of the 2018-19 men's basketball team, by position:
Guards
Defiance will look to top returner, sophomore Davontae Kinnie (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Northside). Kinnie saw action in seven games last season as the starting point guard. He averaged 26.7 minutes per game, dishing out 5.3 assist while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor.
The Purple and Gold also welcome a group of talented freshman in Jalen Peck (Cincinnati/Lakota East), Sean Tyson (Columbus/Centennial), Mason Laube (Dewitt, Mich.), Devin Goodwyn (Detroit, Mich./Chippewa Valley), Matthew Cline (Fostoria/Elmwood), Marell Jordan (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson), Jack Galazka (Macomb, Mich./Cardinal Mooney Catholic) and Malachi McClain (Lansing, Mich./Holt) who will all look to compete for time this season.
Forwards
In the paint, the Yellow Jackets return senior Noah Goodrich (Oregon/Genoa), junior Jordan Maschino (Bradford/Covington), sophomore Demoines Whitney (Detroit, Mich./Western) and sophomore Micaiah Cox (Ft. Recovery).
Goodrich returns to Defiance after a successful junior season where he provided a dull threat for the Yellow Jackets. The senior appeared in 20 games averaging 13.2 minutes per contest while shooting 36.5 percent from the field. Goodrich also found success from behind the three point line where he connected for 33 threes, shooting 39.3 percent. The dull threat also provided a strong performance down low where he averaged 1.5 rebounds per game.
Maschino saw action in 24 games, making 11 starts a season ago. He averaged 14.8 minutes per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field. The junior also led the team in rebounds per game at 4.8, averaging 2.7 offensive rebounds per contest.
Whitney also found success in the paint as he appeared in 19 games, making nine starts for the Purple and Gold. He averaged 19.6 minutes per game while pulling in 4.7 rebounds per contest. The sophomore finished his freshman campaign shooting 50.3 percent from the field, including a perfect mark from behind the arc.
Cox rounds out the returning forwards as he looks to play a much larger roll this season. The sophomore saw action in three games last season and competed as a member of the junior varsity team.
The Purple and Gold also welcome new comers freshmen Tyler Andrew (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) and David Ortiz (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial).
Season Outlook
The Yellow Jackets open the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Nov. 10 as they travel to Adrian College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
DC continues its road stint with stops at Ohio Northern on Monday, Nov. 12th and Westminster (Pa.) on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17th. The Purple and Gold round out the month of November with an exhibition match at Oakland on the 19th at 7:00 p.m.
Defiance returns to the Karl H. Weaner Center on Saturday, December 1st for its home and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener with Rose-Hulman at 3:00 p.m.
The Purple and Gold will once again host the 44th Annual Purple and Gold Tournament to be held on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 featuring Heidelberg, Geneva and Penn State Behrend.
DC will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 16th when they welcome the Hanover Panthers to town. The HCAC tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, Feb. 19th.
