Schomaeker Named Capital One Academic All-American
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Senior Defiance College men's basketball player Travis Schomaeker (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) continues to add to his list of awards this season, both on the court and off, and has been tabbed a first-team Capital One Academic All-American as voted on by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Schomaeker has been a key member in helping the Yellow Jackets to a 19-6 overall record and finishing as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular-Season Co-Champions with a 14-4 mark. He is an education major with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, He is the lone representative of the HCAC to make the Academic All-American teams as well as the only award winner to have a perfect 4.0 gpa.
As a senior, Shomaeker has started all 25 games this season and is second on the team in scoring with a 15.4 points per game average while shooting 45.3 percent (139-of-307) from the floor, 42.4 percent (59-of-139) from three-point range and 86.0 percent (49-of-57) at the free-throw line. He leads the team in assists (101), three-pointers made (59), three-point attempts (139) and is second in steals (31). In additon, Schomaeker has also been averaging 3.7 rebounds this season.
Schomaeker ranks sevemth in the HCAC in scoring (15.4 ppg.), third in triples made (59), sixth in three-point percentage (41.3 percent), fifth in assists (101), tied for seventh in steals (31) and sixth in turnover-to-assist ratio (2.2).
During his career, he has scored 935 points with 249 rebounds and has dished out 243 assists. Schomaeker has a 41.5 lifetime shooting percentage (340-of-819) and a 37.9 percentage (172-of-454) from long range. He also has a 77.6 shot percentage (83-of-107) at the free-throw line.
Last season, Schomaeker was named to the HCAC Tom Bohlsen All-Academic Team for the first time in his career.
Schomaeker and the DC men's basketball team will host the 2014-15 HCAC Tournament this weekend as the top seed. The tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 27 with a pair of quarterfinal games. The Yellow Jackets have earned a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of the Hanover (Ind.) College and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology matchup on Saturday (Feb. 28) at 5 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
