DC's Pettaway Named Third-Team All-Region

Pettaway led Defiance to an 18-9 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The 2008-2009 season was the third-straight year that DC has piled up at least 17 victories and reached the HCAC Semifinals.
The senior center started all 27 games for DC and set new career highs with 453 points, 256 rebounds, 50 assists and 30 blocks. Pettaway's 16.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per night were all team highs, while his 11 double-doubles and 13 times as Defiance's leading scorer also topped all Yellow Jacket players.
The three-time First-Team All-HCAC player was equally dominant over the course of the grueling conference schedule, ranking among the league's finest in multiple statistical categories. Pettaway ended fifth in scoring (17.3 ppg), second in rebounds (9.1 rpg), third in blocks (1.4 bpg) and seventh in field goal percentage (57.1%) in 16 HCAC contests.
Pettaway cemented his status as one of the finest players to wear a Defiance College uniform with his outstanding senior season and ends his DC career 11th on DC's all-time scoring list with 1,477 points. The Toledo, Ohio, native also ranks second with 75 blocks and sixth with 767 rebounds and 617 made field goals in his four years.
