Floyd showcased DC's full offensive arsenal by picking apart the Spartan defense with his pin-point passes, which led to numerous open looks and easy buckets for the Yellow Jackets in their home opener. Floyd's 15 assists led to a 50.8-percent clip from the floor for DC and resulted directly in 39 points for Defiance.
With the Jackets facing a 22-0 deficit, Floyd sparked a 25-7 rally which put Defiance in front to stay by assisting five-of-nine baskets during that stretch. Floyd also ignited a 24-6 rally, which broke the game open in the second period and stopped Manchester's final charge by assisting a trifecta to push the spread back to 13 points with just over three minutes to play.
Floyd's 15 assists topped the old HCAC record of 14, most recently accomplished by DC's C.J. Johnson on Feb. 9, 2005. The floor general now has 28 assists to just three turnovers in a pair of league games and is averaging 9.0 helpers for the season, with a healthy 4.15 assist to turnover ratio.
The HCAC Player-of-the-Week honor is the first for the two-time All-HCAC selection, who now has 243 career assists and needs only 17 more to crack the top five in Defiance history. Floyd also ranks third in school history with his career average of 5.1 assists per game.
Floyd and the Jackets (4-3, 2-0 HCAC) will be shooting for their fourth-straight win when they host Kalamazoo on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
