The Defiance football team pulled off the upset against Mount St. Joseph in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 14-13.

Inside The Numbers
- Junior Jordan Ambrose led the Defiance offense with 70 yards passing going 10-of-17. He also ran for 37 yards on ten carries and earned one rushing touchdown.
- Sophomore Gashawn Moody led the rushing attack with 95 yards on the ground on ten totes and scored one touchdown.
- Senior Amin Shaheed caught a team-high three balls for 39 yards.
- Sophomore Salah Edwards chipped in two catches for 31 yards.
- Leading the Yellow Jacket defense were seniors Thomas Coltrain and Justin Caballero each notched ten tackles on the day.
- Senior Maurice Brewer added eight tackles with 3.5 tackles-for-loss, including two sacks for 15 yards.
- Junior V'Sean Palmer chipped in six tackles and snatched one interception.
- Joey Newton led the Mount St. Joseph offense with 101 on the ground on 21 attempts and also added one receiving score.
- Jonathan Finn led the Lions defense with nine total tackles.
The Difference
- Mount St. Joseph got the scoring started in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown score from Newton.
- Defiance tied up the game 7-7 on an Ambrose QB sneak in the first quarter.
- Kyle Farfsing gave the Lions a 10-7 lead in the second quarter on a 26-yard field goal.
- In the third quarter, Farfsing drilled a 33-yard field goal to increase their lead, 13-7.
- With 4:42 remaining in the third quarter, Moody scored on a two-yard scamper to give the Yellow Jackets a 14-13 lead. Before the score, Moody raced for a 62-yard run to help set up his touchdown.
- After a muffed Mount St. Joseph punt return and a strong defensive performance, Defiance notched the upset win, 14-13.
