GREENWOOD, IND. -- Defiance College senior football player Matt DeVore (Van Buren) has been named this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
DeVore helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 20-14 come-from-behind win against Manchester (Ind.) University this past weekend that put DC at the .500 mark both in the overall season record (3-3) and conference record (2-2).
Individually, DeVore was one of three Yellow Jackets to record a team-high nine tackles against the Spartans. Three of his tackles were for loss, including 1.5 quarterback sacks. He was credited with a partial sack that began what turned out to be Manchester's final drive of the game and later led to a game-clinching interception for the Jackets.
For the season, DeVore is fourth overall on the team in tackles with 37 (19 solo and 18 assists). He is third in tackles for loss (seven) and is tied for the team-lead in sacks with four. In addition, DeVore has one fumble recovery so far this season.
Defiance will seek a third-straight victory when it hosts Anderson (Ind.) University on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Justin F. Coressel Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
