DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College Yellow Jackets Football team has announced that this Saturday's game against Manchester (Ind.) University will be part of an event that will benefit Samaritan's Feet and help provide shoes to children in need.
Defiance College will hold a shoe donation drive at the game on Saturday. Monetary donations will also be accepted. The organization requests that all donated shoes be new and unused. Fans may also purchase Samaritan's Feet wristbands at the game. Wristbands are $10 - purchasing two wristbands provides three pairs of shoes to children in need.
All nine HCAC football squads are hosting an event this season, and are the first conference in the NCAA to do a conference-wide initiative for the organization. Samaritan's Feet also has partnerships with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee).
Samaritans Feet is a non-profit organization founded by Manny Ohonme in 2003. Their mission is to equip ten million impoverished children with ten million shoes in ten years. From 2013-2014, Samaritan's Feet gave away over 1.5 million pairs of shoes.
