GREENWOOD, IND. – Freshman Defiance College safety Angello Proulx (Warren, Mich./Mott) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Anderson (Ind.) University on Saturday.
Proulx helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 48-7 victory against the Ravens and improve to an even 3-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Proulx was one of several players who aided the DC defense to an impressive effort with six total interceptions, one interception away from tying the school single-season record. In addition, three of the six interceptions were returned for touchdowns. The Jackets were one "pick-six" away from equaling the NCAA Division III single-game mark.
Individually, Proulx was one of two players to record a pair of interceptions and was one of the three members of the defensive secondary to find the endzone on one of his interceptions. Proulx's TD came on a 91-yard return which gave DC a commanding 41-0 lead early in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game. He went on to post five tackles (four solo and one assist) to go along with his two interceptions. On his other interception, he returned it 33 yards to end the day with 124 total interception return yards.
Proulx and the rest of the Yellow Jackets will play in their final home game of the season at Justin F. Coressel Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 8 and will take on conference-leading Franklin (Ind.) College. It will also be senior day with kickoff set for 1:30 pm.
