Smith's second-quarter touchdown was the first of his collegiate career and the highlight generated nearly 1,000 views online in the first two days, after being posted on several social media outlets including the Defiance Athletics YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages.
The social media campaign resulted in a run-away victory for Smith and the Yellow Jackets, as Smith's touchdown run earned 253 of the 259 total votes to win in a landslide over Anderson's competing video.
The HCAC Football Play of the Week is a new feature for the league in 2012. Highlights are submitted by sports information directors and coaches from league institutions and voting is open to the public.
Smith and the Yellow Jackets will look to create even more memorable highlights on Saturday, September 15, when they open conference play against Rose-Hulman inside Justin F. Coressel Stadium at 1:30 pm.
