DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College and head football coach Brian Sheehan have announced the hiring of Bryan Driskell as the new wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator for the Purple and Gold.
"Coach Driskell has been a part of the championship process at every place that he has coached," touted head coach Brian Sheehan. "He truly values the development of his players on both a personal and football level and we are excited to welcome him to the DC Football family."
Driskell brings five years of coaching experience with him to DC after holding similar positions at NCAA Division III programs for four of those seasons. In that time, Driskell has been on staff with four conference championships and one national championship team.
"It is an exciting time to be coming to Defiance College," stated Driskell. "President Mark Gordon, Athletics Director Jenni Morrison and Coach Brian Sheehan have a clear vision for establishing Defiance as one of the premier institutions and football programs in the country. I am honored to be a part of that journey and a part of the DC family."
Driskell most recently spent two years at Christopher Newport University as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. While at CNU, Driskell designed and implemented the pass offense scheme for each game and saw the Captains set program records in wins, scoring offense, passing offense, total offense, passing touchdowns and completions en route to winning the USA South Conference Championship.
Prior to his two years at CNU, Driskell held the same position at Duquesne University. In his single season with DU, the Dukes claimed the NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championship, while setting school records in passing yards and completions.
Driskell's coaching career also includes stops at Muhlenberg College and Wittenberg University, winning conference crowns at each institution. During his one season with Muhlenberg, Driskell saw the Mules set program records for wins and points in a single season and advance into the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the first time in school history.
The Lima, Ohio native spent time at the quarterback and wide receiver positions during his collegiate playing career, starting at Methodist before playing his final three seasons at Salisbury.
Driskell went on to earn a degree in history from Salisbury in 2002 and has been working towards a master's degree in Christian studies at Denver Seminary since 2008, while also serving with Irish Sports Daily as a recruiting evaluator for the University of Notre Dame.
