GREENWOOD, Ind. – Keith Snyder set the all-time record for assisted tackles at Defiance College en route to helping DC to a 21-13 win over Anderson on Saturday. For his efforts in the victory, Snyder has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Snyder picked up four assisted tackles to move to 169 for his career, passing Donny Mutters (1988-1991) for the top spot in the Defiance College record books. Along with setting the new record, Snyder piled up a game-high 12 total tackles to go with five pass breakups, one interception and one quarterback hurry.
Snyder's impact was needed to help slow a Raven air attack which hoisted up 73 pass attempts, and his impact was never felt more than on the final drive of the day. With DC clinging to the 21-13 advantage with under a minute to play, Snyder chased down AU's Nolan Bernard at the 18 to prevent a score on the 47-yard reception. Snyder then batted down a pass in the end zone just two plays later to turn the Ravens away yet again and help preserve the Yellow Jacket victory.
The Martin, Mich., native has now registered 10-or-more tackles in four-straight games and leads all HCAC defenders with 89 tackles and 12.7 stops per game. Snyder also ranks at or near the top 10 nationally in each statistic.
The HCAC honor is the third for Snyder is his four-year career at Defiance College and is the first such award for the Defiance College football team in 2008.
Snyder and the Jackets will look to build on the win over Anderson when they travel to Hanover on Saturday, Nov. 1. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
