Dillon Earns Second-Straight HCAC Monthly Honor
GREENWOOD, Ind. For the second time in as many months, Luke Dillon has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month. Dillon also garnered a pair of HCAC Offensive-Player-of-the-Week honors during the month of October.
GREENWOOD, Ind. For the second time in as many months, Luke Dillon has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month. Dillon also garnered a pair of HCAC Offensive-Player-of-the-Week honors during the month of October.
The senior led Defiance to a 3-1 record in October and bolstered his All-American resume by hauling in 36 catches for 486 yards and nine touchdowns. Dillon extended his streak of 100-yard games to seven straight to start the year and averaged 10 receptions, 154 yards and three scores per game in the Yellow Jackets three victories.
Along with the two weekly honors from the Heartland Conference offices, Dillons month was also highlighted by being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and tying the Defiance College school record with his 26th career receiving touchdown. Dillon also broke the schools single-game record with four touchdown catches in a 33-31 win over Rose-Hulman and matched the feat one week later in a 34-7 victory against Anderson.
Dillon currently has 89 catches, 1,186 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season and ranks fourth in the nation with 9.9 receptions per game and fifth nationally with 131.8 receiving yards per contest.
The Temperance, Mich., native will enter his final collegiate contest on Saturday needing 23 yards and one touchdown to tie DCs single-season records. Dillon already owns the single-game record for receptions, yards and touchdowns, the single-season mark for receptions and the schools career record for receiving touchdowns.
Dillon is the second Defiance athlete to win the HCAC Athlete of the Month award twice in the same season, joining mens basketball player, Anthony Pettaway, who accomplished the feat in January and February.
The HCAC Athlete of the Month aware is in its third year of existence. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of each institution.
