GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Alex Bonilla connected on all four of his field goal attempts in DCs 33-7 win over Hanover College on Saturday, and has been selected as the HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week. The award is the second for Bonilla this season.
Bonilla was honored after setting a new Defiance College single-game record with the four successful field goals, including the eventual game-winning boot. The Glenville High product split the uprights from 41, 33, 32 and 26 yards to boost the Yellow Jacket offense, and also hit all three of his point after attempts.
With the score tied at 7-7, Bonilla scored nine-straight points during a span of just 10:50 to push Defiance out to a 16-7 lead early into the third quarter. Bonillas first kick capped an 11-play drive and stayed true from 41 yards out. He extended the streak with makes from 32 and 26, before further padding the DC lead with a 33-yard kick in the fourth quarter. The fourth and final make of the game gave Bonilla the single-game record for DC.
Bonilla now ranks second in the HCAC with seven made field goals on the season and needs one more to tie Defiances single-season mark of eight set last year by Dan Brown.
Bonilla and the rest of the Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, October 22, when they play at Mount St. Joseph. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
