GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Luke Dillon has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month for September. Dillon is the fourth Defiance athlete to win the award over the past two years.
The Temperance, Mich., native has piled up the statistics and accolades over the course of the season and currently leads the nation with 11.8 receptions and 155.5 receiving yards per game. Dillon also ranks fourth with 622 total receiving yards and is 26th in all-purpose yards with 162.5 per game.
Dillon has been a major factor in each of DCs games so far this season, bringing in at least eight catches and eclipsing the 100-yard plateau in all four. His best outing netted a spot on Don Hansens Football Gazette National Player-of-the-Week list, as well as HCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors, after he hauled in 17 receptions for 253 yards in the Yellow Jackets 16-14 victory at Otterbein on Sept. 8. With that performance, Dillon broke the Defiance and HCAC single-game record for receiving yards and tied the school and conference marks for catches in a single game.
Through the first four games of the 2007 season, the senior receiver has racked up 47 catches for 622 yards and three touchdowns. Dillon has already passed his career high for receptions in a season and needs just 124 yards for a new career high in that category.
Dillon is currently on pace to shatter DCs school record for catches and receiving yards in a single season, needing 37 catches and 587 yards to reach each mark.
The HCAC Athlete of the Month award is in its third year of existence. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of each member institution.
