DEFIANCE, Ohio – In Great Lakes Esports Conference action on Thursday night, Defiance College's League of Legends team delivered a 2-1 win over Grace College in a best-of-three match.
"Game one we had some misreads about what this team was going to try to do," Defiance head coach Chris Sanders said. "We got a feel for what they were wanting to play and draft like for the first game, then were able to get ourselves much more advantageous picks and reads in the other two games to clutch the series. I am proud of these boys for rallying and not losing hope, but we are going to be tested against much harder opponents in the coming weeks of the conference."
The Yellow Jackets lost the opening game but bounced back by winning two straight contests. DC's victory was the college's first ever in LoL.
Defiance's Stephen Jones finished with 40 takedowns, including 16 in the final game. Michael Eddins posted a 9.0 KDA in the second game and grabbed the Yellow Jackets' first pentakill in history during the final competition.
DC's LoL squad is now 1-2 on the season and slated to compete again on Oct. 3 versus GLEC opponent Lourdes University.
