DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College baseball took Rutter Field once again on Wednesday afternoon for a nonconference contest with Ohio Wesleyan. Struggles on both sides of the plate saw the Yellow Jackets fall to OWU 6-1.
Defiance saw their first runner reach base in the fourth inning as Michael Reese (Constantine, Mich. / Constantine) earned a walk. The Yellow Jackets were unable to bring in the run as the OWU pitcher continued to find his stride.
DC tallied their first and only hit of the contest in the sixth inning, as Grant Vickery (Bellevue) made solid contact, slinging the ball over the infield and into center.
The bottom of the ninth saw Defiance push their way to a bases loaded situation. Troy Konwinski (Allen Park, Mich. / Allen Park), Nate Kaffenbarger (DeGraff / Indian Lake), and Jude Neary (Toledo / Cardinal Stritch Catholic) found their way onto base. Ben Bucklew (Archbold) stepped up for his only piece of action of the day, hitting a hard shot to left field. The sophomore's just hung a bit too long as the OWU left fielder sprinted to get under it to complete the final out.
From the mound, Will Bohlman (Centerville) threw for five innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out one. Tyler Hines (Cincinnati / Northwest), Kody King (Cecil / Fairview), and Kendal Duval (Blissfield, Mich. / Blissfield) each saw time on the mound to close out the game.
Defiance's record now stands at 15-11-1 overall, while maintaining their 5-5 mark in the HCAC. DC will return to action Saturday, April 20, as they host Rose-Hulman in HCAC action. First pitch is slated for 12:00 pm. The double header will also serve as senior day for the nine Yellow Jacket seniors.
